Client: Morrisroe

Year: 2024

Sector: Construction

Waste Removed: 355T tonnes

Overview:
Westminster Waste was proud to partner with Morrisroe on the demolition phase of the Minerva House project. Our team provided efficient and environmentally responsible waste removal services, tailored to meet the challenges of the site clearance.

Innovative Solution:
This project was unique as it involved the delivery and removal of waste using Londonโ€™s waterways. The bins were delivered to Plaistow Wharf, loaded onto a barge, and transported via the Thames to Minerva House at London Bridge. Upon arrival, the containers were lifted by crane onto the demolition site for waste loading. Once filled, the waste was transported back to our facility in Belvedere for recovery and recycling.

Key Achievements:

  • Successfully removed waste from a challenging demolition site in Central London.
  • Minimised disruption to the surrounding area by reducing heavy road transport.
  • Utilised London’s waterways to lower carbon emissions and traffic congestion.
  • Supported the clientโ€™s sustainability goals by recovering and recycling waste at our facility.

Project Success:
This collaboration with Morrisroe on the Minerva House project demonstrates our ability to provide tailored, environmentally conscious waste management solutions. By leveraging the Thames as a transport route, we were able to deliver exceptional results while reducing the projectโ€™s environmental footprint. Our Waste by Water service is a clear example of how innovation and sustainability can work hand in hand to deliver successful outcomes.

Our Minerva House project is a fantastic example of how partnerships between long term supply chains can work to provide effective and innovative solutions to demolition and construction projects in Central London. Morrisroes innovative use of the River Thames to clear materials from the project required Westminster Waste to provide tested materials skips, working with the barge supplier GPS Marine, we trialled multiple configurations, to help us maximise the efficiency of each trip and we welcomed their proactive approach in achieving a significant reduction of HGV lorries using the highways.
